  • Lessons are for individuals planning to major in music or individuals playing music for fun.

  • All ages and abilities welcome- I just require that you be serious about learning and have fun!

  • Lessons are taught in Bellingham, occasional lessons are taught in Friday Harbor.

  • Lessons are $20/half hour or $40/hour once a week.

  • You are responsible to pay for any missed lessons-you must find a time to make them up.

  • It is required that you bring a notebook to write down and keep track of lesson assignments.

  • Field trips to see local concerts and flute players are offered to students who work hard and have good attendance.

  • A once-a-year concert is planned for all students interested in getting performance experience. This gives parents a chance to hear what their student has learned, and also gives the students a chance to hear each other. Often there will be a video recording available for these concerts.

  • Students planning to become professionals should also learn to play the piccolo.

  • Choose an area of interest such as classical, jazz, pop, modern works, or just find out what flute music suits you best.

  • Every student should have some CDs of famous flute or piccolo players and famous Orchestral works. My suggestions for famous flute and piccolo players would be Jeanne Baxtresser, Julius Baker, Jacques Zoon, Zart Dombourian-Eby

  • Serious students should consider joining the Seattle Flute Society, the National Flute Association, subscribing to Flute Talk Magazine, or the International Musician.

  • Practice time for beginners planning to be
PROFESSIONAL should be 20min a day- 1 hour a day
        Intermediate 2 hours - 3 hours a day
        Advanced 3-4 hours a day.

  • It is easiest if you have a set time schedule to practice in and if you have a practice regimen planned out.

  • Suggested time management for typical one hour practice session:
        1. Tone 10 min : Always warm up first on tone exercises. Moyse Tone book or Trevor Wye Tone book are good selections.
